I am going to see the Wild & Wonderful Whites of West Virginia with some friends.

I am very, very psyched about it.

If you have heard of Jesco White, the Dancing Outlaw, well, this is a follow-up documentary about his family and the total redneck, crazy, no-consequences way they live.

To wit, here is the trailer:

I am sure there will be much hilarity and hijinks, and that’s part of what the whole film is about.

But it’s also about what the mining industry has done to that beautiful part of the country, about the lasting effects of poverty and lack of education, and about the difficulty of escaping from such. Which is too close to home–you don’t grow up in the rural South without coming face to face with the reality of this.

Either way, it should be interesting.
