You see, my graduate student study carrel was chosen with some deliberation. I picked the one with the window, so I could look out on the world from my fourth-floor vantage point. Windows make for cheerfulness. It’s a good way to at least pretend you are getting sunshine.

But when the blinds–which are hermetically sealed inside the double-paned glass–are closed and it takes some special tool to open them, well, it’s not as useful as it could be. And then I spend time grousing about that rather than translating the Book of Margery Kempe like a dutiful little student. Hence this blog, natch.
